Hoosier Candle Company with Traci Bratton
Tell us about yourself: Born and raised in Tippecanoe County. I am married to my high school sweetheart and we have two awesome "young adults". I've always loved doing anything creative and love meeting others that share the same passions.
How and when did your business get started? City girl by location, country girl by heart....and genetics. I grew up in a muti generation farming family and spent summers on my grandparents farm. I spent a lot of time with my grandma who liked to can, sew, quilt, create and just showed me that we all have special gifts. After high school I tried many things, quickly figuring out that retail and creating were my passion. In 2002 we bought a sweet little country/primitive store and in 2009 we started a sweet little candle company from scratch. I say candle making is my "yoga" it is truly my passion and I LOVE doing it! My mom and I also have another little handmade line that is reflective of growing up on the farm...and the rest they say is history!
What is your favorite product in your shop? Tell us how you came up with it. Baker's Dozen Layered Soy Candle is my pride and joy. Created after someone said "what do you have that is different?" I sought out to create just that! It is created with 13 different bakery scents, all layered. It is a beautiful candle that was created for my love of antique Yelloware. It is our year round best seller and a VERY unique product!
Where do you find your inspiration and creativity? Of course Pinterest....however I am still old school at heart. I love flipping through old books and magazines to find inspiration.
What are your favorite things about being a vendor in a handmade market? I love sharing ideas and seeing what other wonderful ideas vendors come up with. It's very inspiring to be among that talent!
