Tell us about yourself…Hi, I'm Heather, the co-owner of The Wood Guru's Custom Crafts. Tony and I created our business in August 2014. he does most of the work when it comes to the wood and I do the painting. Together, we come up with our final items to sell. We both work full time jobs and do this on the side. We hope to someday turn this into a full time business!
How and when did your business get started? In July 2014, Tony's cousin contacted him and asked if he could make 2 chairs she had seen that she liked. We posted the pictures on Facebook and after the response he received we decided to start making more. We wanted to start doing craft shows to advertise our chairs more. We made "fillers" to sell at craft shows and also took a few chairs with us. Those "fillers" are now our whole business! We haven't made a chair in over a year!
What is your favorite product in your shop? Tell us how you came up with it. My favorite product is our wooden blocks that have all different sayings on them. The reason I like them the best is because of all the colors and sayings you can choose from. There are so many different options. Once we have it painted and the saying put on the block, we then top it off with a beautiful embellishment.
Where do you find your inspiration and creativity? Our inspiration comes from a lot of different things. I love rainbows so any chance I get to make something colorful, I make it. We try and stay up to date on what everyone is interested in and create our own pieces from there.
What are your favorite things about being a vendor in a handmade market? My favorite things about being a vendor is meeting all the other crafters and seeing our customers reactions when they see something they love.
Give us 5 fun facts about you and/or your business…Our craft business is ran out of our garage and dining room. Tony does HVAC by day and I'm a mortgage closer. Tony's daughter drew/created our logo. I was never able to have children, but Tony has a son and a daughter. We have 3 wonderful grandchildren to spoil! My Mom, who had a lung transplant in May 2016 lives with us and she has been a huge help getting us prepared for our big shows!
