How and when did your business get started? I have always looked for outlets in which I can use my creativity. My full time job as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, working with children with Autism, is challenging but I adore it. The days are not always easy. In 2016 I told myself I would begin indulging in a hobby again, something to exercise the right side of my brain. That's where I came up with the idea for Thelma and Midge. The name is close to my heart. Thelma my Maternal Grandmother, helps me with the sewing of my Milestone blankets. To do something with her that we both enjoy means a lot to me. Midge, my Paternal Grandmother, passed away about 10 years ago after fighting a long battle with Alzheimer's. Grandma Midge was a talented quilter. It wasn't until I was older that I began to appreciate the skill and time she put into each piece. The machine I sew with is a Singer that belonged to my Grandma Midge. When my friends began having babies, it was easy for me to go overboard buying clothes for all the babes. However, I felt like there was something I could add to their wardrobe, something with a bit more color. All of my bodysuits and Milestone Blankets are hand dyed, making each one a little unique.
What is your favorite product in your shop? Tell us how you came up with it. As an Indiana Girl, my favorite item in our shop is our Locally Grown Baby Bodysuits.
Where do you find your inspiration and creativity? I love talking to people at shows. Both customers and vendors. They are my inspiration. Since starting Thelma and Midge in 2016, I have met some awesome people through this endeavor. I am 26 and nearly all of my friends are having babies, have babies, or are buying for friends babies. I love talking with them and just pulling ideas from our conversations.
What are your favorite things about being a vendor in a handmade market? I love the people! I am a talker, and I enjoy being able to talk to people about my craft as well as other vendors about theirs.
